A noteworthy piece on wines, from an iconic expert.
let’s take a minute to appreciate the simple joys of kicking back and enjoying wine with friends. We know it’s not just about the wine; it’s about the laughs, the stories, and maybe a stroll down memory lane. And if you’ve got an extra special bottle? Well, that’s just the icing on the cake!
Whether at the tasting room, the winery, the vineyard, or relaxing at home, wine has a magical way of bringing us together. As we all navigate our busy lives, these little things are the BIG things in life—moments that linger, like a Chateau Beaucastel Chateauneuf-Du-Pape Rouge dancing on your palate. So, explore new wines, attend or host a dinner or tasting, visit a winery, plan a trip to a vineyard, and/or simply pair your favorite fermented juice with good company; and, if you need ideas, you know where to FIND THEM.
Sincerely,
Eric V. Orange (EVO) Founder & CEO*

The multi state popular brand. The brand and other labels, well rooted in Western India markets, now expanding in other states too.
Chandon India forays into still wines with 100% Shiraz Reserve and went onto win a Silver Medal at Decanter World Wine 2024.
Priced at Rs 4250/- probably among the most expensive still Indian wine but the award and description tempts one to try it. Described as delicious, full-bodied with soft smooth velvety tannins with notes of ripe berries and spice with a long lingering taste.
More later after tasting.HR Ahuja,Mum/US
What a surprise it was. Though I love Indian sweets but not a great fan of dessert or late harvest wines except Ice wine. This wine however changed my opinion of late harvest wines.
The wine was slightly over chilled so the first few sips were only the wonderful, mood-enhancing sweetness on the palate.
I left the wine for 5-7 minutes and again had a sip. A transformation on nose and palate.
The light straw-coloured wine, is medium sweet, medium bodied and full of fruity aroma, very well balanced with crisp acidity. The mild sweetness and acidity are perfectly balanced.
Though it was a treat in itself but I tried it with an orange-based Indian sweet, a Diwali gift from a friend in Nagpur. The sweet from Nagpur was not loaded with sugar, just the right amount of sugar, so that it did not overpower the tartness of the orange flavour.
The combination was a heady experience. The orange flavour of sweet, crispness from acidity of wine, accentuated by the citrus sweet taste. HR Ahuja,Mumbai.
While reading a book, came across the term Marc and a google search led to discovery of a new product for me.
Marc ( pronounced as Mahr) is made by fermenting
Marc ( pronounced as Mahr) de Champagne is produced from pressing the pomace (skin and seeds of the grape) rather than the juice and it’s a powerful spirit (40% alcohol) that’s aged for several years in oak barrels. To use an analogy, Marc de Champagne is to France what Grappa is to Italy.
The grapes used for making Marc are same as used in Champagne, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and Chardonnay. Ahuja,Mum./US

Out of human bondage.
I kept my promise to myself. After 7 years of continuous requests, an exclusive collection’s few pieces were allowed to me to be taken home to my wine library. Thanks to the management who approved and gifted 5 of their old(1995 included.) Wine mags to me. I first saw them in 2015 and with permissions was a regular reader there. The passion on wines grew with this practice of mine and ultimately with few seniors of the management, created a family bondage with my wine club. This is the beginning of a long story with this unique hospitality Centre of Mumbai.AWCI gets another appreciative approval.Thanks.
